About Nano Press

Nano press is a brand new, tiny little publishing house whose mission is to find and publish those novel gems that the New York publishing establishment doesn't want to take a chance on. The first place we're specifically looking is in the enormous pile of work generated each year by National Novel Writing Month in November. Check out their web site if you aren't familiar with them. If you are familiar with them, go and take another look at it anyway; it's wicked funny.

Several other things set Nano Press apart from other mainstream publishing houses:

* Our financial goals are modest. We would rather publish more titles that each generate moderate sales than forever search that elusive million dollar bestselling grail. We wouldn't mind having a bestseller, but our market strategy doesn't depend on it.

* Rather than market to the "reading public", we are targeting our sales to the "writing public", on the theory that writers of books tend to be big readers (and buyers) of books. Our specific initial market is NaNoWriMo participants themselves, whether or not they crossed the 50,000 word finish line. We're not worried about the long term because, stereotypes of reclusive writers aside, most writers tend to have plenty of friends who read but don't write. We're confident they'll find us once word gets around.

* We believe books are more expensive than they have to be. By keeping expenses down with our very flat organizational structure and by eliminating the distribution middlemen, we are able to offer trade paperbacks (usually priced from $12 to $20) at mass market prices ($6 to $9.) These are not POD or digital books, nor do we charge authors for publication in any way, shape, or form.

As of December 2005 we are open for submissions. We welcome manuscripts, in any genre, of at least 50,000 words. Extra consideration will be given to any novel that began life as a NaNoWriMo winner.
